Saxophonist Melvin Byrd, a Detroit native who has called Atlanta home for over 25 years, comes from a distinguished lineage of professional musicians. His musical journey began at just seven years old with the piano, and by age eleven, he had found his true voice in the alto saxophone. Throughout high school and college, Melvin honed his craft through private lessons and performances with marching bands, jazz ensembles, and gospel choirs.

Today, Melvin shares his passion for music mentoring young artists and inspiring the next generation. He is a vibrant performer, leading his own band, Urban Harmonics, and collaborating with ensembles across Atlanta and the Southeast, captivating audiences with a soulful fusion of artistry, energy, and skill.
